SP4449: Daylight Along the River to Bend
Southern Pacific 4449.....to many, you need not say much more, as it has and remains to this day one of the most iconic locomotives
in history, and now for the 1st time ever, Left Coast Rail Videos is pleased to bring the famed SP Daylight painted engine
into your living room with our newest release…….. “Southern Pacific Forty Four Forty Nine Daylight Along
the River to Bend”. SP 4449 is a streamlined GS-4 class locomotive. Built by Lima Locomotive Works in 1941,
it is the only surviving engine of its kind. After undergoing the mandatory 15 year FRA overhaul recently, SP
4449 got to stretch her legs on an overnight excursion in June 2017, from Portland, OR to Bend, OR, returning to Portland
the following day. The action was hot, but the soaring heat from Mother Nature proved to be even hotter with temps both
days above 100, causing several delays each day. With a team of 8 photographers and our very own footage,
we cover SP 4449's journey through the Columbia River Gorge along BNSF's Fallbridge Sub, crossing the Columbia at Wishram,
and then onto BNSF's Oregon Trunk Sub for the trip through the Deschutes River Canyon and into Bend. Beautiful
scenery, lots of locations, and an up close look at the one and only Southern Pacific 4449 are all coming your way.
